Even for Bellingham standards, we had a pretty bad summer. If I remember correctly,  Summer was about a week and a half in early July, with a brief Indian Summer for a couple of days in mid August.

Ok. Fine. It happens. But if we’re not going to get a Summer, bring on the friggin’ Winter already! Let’s skip Fall. I want some snow. Mt Baker is a 90-minute drive. Whistler Blackcomb is exactly three hours away. These have to be two of the greatest skiing locations on the planet, and I’m ready.

I’ve got some sweet DynaStar skis (Thanks, Dad), some shock-absorbing Allsop poles and I just picked up a helmet at Costco. I want to put all of this stuff to use.

Last year my first trip up to Baker was the Sunday after Thanksgiving. It was a huge snow day, but the ski area had already been open for a couple of weeks. I made it to Whistler, finally, in February.

Simon and I are planning on a trip to Stevens Pass on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, but it’s still unclear if it’ll even be open.

The way I see it, we have got two primary seasons (Summer and Winter) and two secondary seasons (Spring and Fall). I’ll accept getting jacked on one of the primary seasons, but I expect a little consideration in the other.

I’m looking at you, Mother Nature.
